SUHSD – Putting Students First




Dear Sweetwater Retirees:

This is Karen Janney and I hope you will be able to join me in supporting and inspiring your Sweetwater colleagues. I, like many of you, have worked my entire career here, and want our district to be the beacon of light for our students and families.

As the Superintendent, it is my goal to help put the spotlight back on our students, our community and our staff. Lately, that light hasn’t shined as brightly as it should have. It’s my hope that you will join me in ensuring that Sweetwater is seen as the great district that it is.

Remember at the beginning of each school year we used to gather together for a “Welcome Back” event? I truly enjoyed that time because it was a great opportunity to see colleagues from other schools and to start the year with positive momentum.

My goal is to reinstate that tradition on July 20 and July 21. This is where I need your help! As a symbol of our renewed spirit of teamwork, I would like to be able to announce at the Welcome Back that we will give each of Sweetwater’s 4,000 employees a T-shirt. On the T-shirt would be the words,

Sweetwater Union High School District
Putting students first.

Although this is a quick turnaround (our goal is to raise $30,000 by July 22), I know that many of you will support our efforts by enabling us to give staff a small token of appreciation for all their efforts. In addition, these shirts will be an ongoing symbol throughout the year that they are part of a bigger team that includes all of you!

Please join me in contributing to this endeavor by sending a tax deductible (within the limits of law) check made out to SUHSD – Putting Students First, c/o Karen Michel, Chief Financial Officer, 1130 Fifth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91911 or you can use the donate online button above: Any additional funds raised will be used for future staff recognition activities. Contributions will not be accepted from current employees, district vendors or contractors.

Finally, we also want to welcome you back to Sweetwater and hope that you will join us on either July 20 at Otay Ranch HS (8:00am) or July 21 at Montgomery HS (8:00am).
